Good Trouble Rally

  • Centennial Park 209 Main Street Lander, WY 82520 United States (map)

We will meet at 4 PM at Centennial Park in Lander and march to City Park on Second Street with our signs, flags, etc. There is a concert in City Park that evening, so we should be seen by many people going to that concert.

The following is important information about this event: With the theme of "Good Trouble!”, we’re telling our community, our elected representatives, and the Trump administration that we’re resisting efforts to dismantle or diminish our public institutions, the rule of law, and civil rights.

● How have we personally been affected? What are our fears for the future?

● How can we speak out to defend the vulnerable, disenfranchised, intimidated, threatened, and discriminated members of our communities?

● How can we speak on behalf of tribal sovereignty, public lands, natural resources, and vulnerable ecosystems?

This is what we’re protesting, but a protest is a moment, and we also want this moment to lead to action. So, in addition to your best signs and chants, we also want to encourage you to come with ways you can encourage your community to act, to engage, and to keep showing up.

Here are some logistics and reminders for the event: The Lander Police department is aware of the event. They’ve encouraged us to protest responsibly and have offered the following guidelines:

● Keep a pedestrian path on the sidewalk open

● Lander does have a 24 hour noise ordinance that they can enforce at any point

● If any agitators present threat, contact one of our rally marshal who are wearing orange vests

● They don’t have any concerns with signs on sticks I will have a small PA with mic to share stories, make announcements, cheerleading, and encouraging action items.

Finally, here are some best practices that we should observe or consider for the protest:

● We will have a wagon with cold water on the march Bring sunscreen, hats etc.

● This is a peaceful protest. Please avoid antagonizing or threatening any counter-protestors or agitators. Keep it positive! They have the same rights as us!

● Let’s rally our community and build coalitions, not blame anyone.

● Verbal retorts, threats, and insults can be viewed as assault. Let’s steer clear of any negativity that could put our movement in jeopardy. In all cases keep the high road!

● If confronted by a counter-protestor, firmly hold your ground and don’t let them get you agitated. We’re not protesting to fight them.

● Listen to each other. Respect differences.

● Let’s make sure we clean up afterwards. At the conclusion of the event I’ll encourage everyone to help make sure we left the site better than we found it. I’ll have some trash bags.

● If we are issued a dispersal order, please pay attention to any specific directions and comply accordingly.

● Since it’s a public event, there may be photographers or videographers. If you don’t wish to be in photos please consider wearing a mask.

● Flags are encouraged: Old Glory and otherwise! See you at Centennial Park in Lander, Thursday, July 17 from 4-5:30pm.
